C4B at EUBCE 2025: LEITAT and Wageningen Research Unite to Promote Social Sustainability and Fairness in the Bioeconomy
From 9–13 June 2025, the C4B project was represented at the European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE 2025) in Valencia, Spain, through the joint participation of two key partners: LEITAT Technological Center and Stichting Wageningen Research (WR). Their coordinated contributions underlined C4B’s mission to foster fair, inclusive, and socially sustainable bio-based value chains.
A Shared Commitment: Social and Economic Fairness in Biomass Value Chains
- LEITAT presented a poster titled “Social Sustainability in Biomass Valorisation: Insights from the C4B Project”, developed by its Circular Economy and Decarbonisation Department. The work focused on how social sustainability indicators can be applied to assess biomass value chains’ contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Attendees engaged actively, offering feedback on practical applications and the challenges of assessing social impacts in rural contexts.
- WR presented complementary work on integrating fairness into circular bio-based business models. Drawing from nine C4B case studies across Europe, the team introduced an enriched Triple Layered Business Model Canvas combined with a Fairness Assessment, emphasizing how equitable value distribution benefits both producers and industry stakeholders.
Together, LEITAT and WR demonstrated how the C4B project is bridging the gap between technical innovation and social responsibility, highlighting rural inclusion, policy alignment, and real-world replicability of fair bioeconomy practices.
