C4B Study visit to Sweden: Accelerating the Circular Forest Bioeconomy
C4B continued building cross-border collaboration in the circular forest bioeconomy with an intensive study visit in northern Sweden, co-organized by our partners BioFuel Region and Fondazione Agrifood & Bioeconomy FVG.
An impactful study visit for regional stakeholders from Friuli Venezia Giulia to northern Sweden with a great programme:

RISE Processum Biorefinery Cluster — Meeting and tour of test & demo facilities supporting the development and commercialization of biorefinery processes, green products, chemicals and materials.

Domsjö Fabriker — Insights into valorisation pathways for cellulose, lignin and bioethanol used in products ranging from textiles and packaging to pharma applications.

Umeå Energi — Visit to the biomass CHP plant and biomass terminal to see integrated, regional energy and communications solutions.

Local forestry operator visit — learning from the Swedish forestry model

Co-creation workshop — Interactive session comparing Italian and Swedish C4B case studies related to the wood value chain, exploring transferability and replication.
Why it matters
The visit translated innovation into action—connecting R&D, industrial operations and regional policy needs. By learning from best practices and replicable models, C4B is helping European regions de-risk adoption and accelerate circular bioeconomy deployment.
